What is a sales sequence?
A sales sequence is a predefined series of outreach steps — emails, calls and social touches — delivered to a prospect over a set period, with rules for when to stop, most importantly stopping as soon as they reply.
The purpose of a sequence is consistency, not volume. Most replies to cold outreach arrive after the first message, so a single unanswered email is usually an incomplete attempt rather than a rejection. A sequence makes the follow-up happen without depending on anyone remembering.
Good sequences vary the argument rather than repeating it. If the first email leads on a problem, a later step might lead on a customer result or a specific observation about the recipient's business. A sequence whose steps are all "just bumping this to the top of your inbox" adds volume without adding information.
Every sequence needs an exit condition. Stopping on reply is essential; stopping on unsubscribe is a legal requirement in most jurisdictions. Sending the next scheduled step to someone who has already answered is the clearest possible signal that no human is reading the responses.
